P1 MCP tools


This page describes what your AI assistant can do once it's connected to the P1 MCP. You don't need to use tool names; just ask for what you want in plain language. Tool names are shown in brackets for reference.

Some actions need a particular role on the site. These are marked Admin only.

Sites

The P1 sites you have access to, and their settings.

  • List the sites you can access (list_sites)
  • Show a site's name, URL, allowed origins, and approval settings (get_site)
  • Show a site's caching, social sharing, and language settings (get_site_settings)
  • Create a new site. Not available when connected with an agent key. (create_site)
  • Change a site's name, URL, allowed origins or approval settings. Admin only. (update_site)
  • Change a site's caching, social sharing or language settings. Admin only. (update_site_settings)

Workstreams

Separate copies of a site where you can make changes without affecting the live site. Tool names say "branch", which means the same thing.

  • List a site's workstreams (list_branches)
  • Show a workstream's details and status (get_branch)
  • Create a workstream (create_branch)
  • Rename a workstream, or change its description or status (update_branch)
  • Archive a workstream you no longer need (archive_branch)
  • Bring back an archived workstream (restore_branch)

Pages

The pages on a site.

  • List the pages in a workstream (list_documents)
  • Read a page's content (get_document)
  • Create a page from components or from a template (create_page)
  • Publish a page (publish_page)
  • Change a page's path (URL) (rename_page)
  • Archive a page (archive_page)
  • Bring back an archived page (restore_page)

Editing

Changes to the content of a page. The assistant reserves the parts of the page it's changing, so it doesn't overwrite someone else's work.

  • Check whether anyone else is editing that part of the page (check_edit_permission)
  • Reserve the parts of the page it's about to change (start_edit_session)
  • Make the changes (apply_document_edits)
  • Save the changes (complete_edit_session)
  • Cancel and undo the changes (abort_edit_session)

Version history

Earlier versions of a page.

  • List a page's earlier versions (list_document_versions)
  • Show what a page looked like in an earlier version (get_document_version)
  • Restore a page to an earlier version. The current version is kept in the history. (restore_document_version)

Going live

Moving changes from a workstream to the live site, directly or with approval.

  • Check whether a workstream can be merged, and list any conflicts (check_merge)
  • Show what a merge would change (preview_merge)
  • Merge a workstream (execute_merge)
  • Open a merge request for someone to review (create_merge_request)
  • List merge requests (list_merge_requests)
  • Show a merge request (get_merge_request)
  • Edit a merge request, or mark it approved (update_merge_request)
  • Carry out an approved merge request (execute_merge_request)
  • Show the progress of a long merge (get_merge_job)
  • Stop a long merge (cancel_merge_job)

The building blocks pages are made from.

  • List the components a site can use (list_components)
  • Show a component's full definition (get_component)
  • Add a new component. Admin only. (register_component)
  • Change a component. Admin only. (update_component)
  • Add or replace several components at once. Admin only. (sync_components)
  • Archive a component. Admin only. (archive_component)
  • List the page templates a site can use (list_templates)

Navigation

A site's menus and page structure.

  • List a site's navigation structures (list_structures)
  • Show a navigation tree (get_navigation)
  • Add a section, page link, or external link (add_navigation_item)
  • Rename an item, or change its slug or position (update_navigation_item)
  • Move an item somewhere else in the tree (move_navigation_item)
  • Reorder the items under one parent (reorder_navigation_items)
  • Remove an item from navigation. The page itself is kept. (remove_navigation_item)

Page details

Information stored with a page, such as its title and SEO fields.

  • Show a page's details (get_page_metadata)
  • Change a page's details (set_page_metadata)

Translations

Language versions of a page.

  • Create a translation of a page (create_translation)
  • List a page's translations (list_locale_variants)
  • Show what changed in the original page since it was translated (get_drift)
  • Mark those changes as handled (resolve_drift)

Content queries

Saved lists of content, such as "latest blog posts".

  • List where a site's content lists get their content from (list_datasources)
  • List a site's saved queries (list_queries)
  • Show how a query is set up (get_query)
  • Show the content a query returns (get_query_results)

Who's working

Who else is viewing or editing right now.

  • Show who is working anywhere in a workstream (get_branch_presence)
  • Show who is working on a page, and which part (get_document_presence)
