How to edit content with the P1 MCP

This guide shows you how to ask your AI assistant to change content on a P1 site.

Before you start, connect your assistant to P1. See How to connect an AI assistant to P1.

With the P1 MCP, you don't need to know tool names or IDs. Just describe what you want in plain language.

In this tutorial, imagine your coworker Mark has asked for a new page on your site. You'll set up a workstream for Mark's request, make a small edit, and then build the page.

Check your connection and find your site

  1. Ask your assistant:

Which P1 sites can you see?

  1. The assistant lists your sites by name. Find the site you want to work on.
  2. Tell your assistant which site to use for the rest of this tutorial. Type the site's name exactly as the assistant listed it.

If the assistant doesn't list the site you expected:

  • It says it has no P1 tools, or can't reach P1: your assistant isn't connected. Follow How to connect an AI assistant to P1 again.
  • It lists no sites, or not the one you want: your account or agent doesn't have access to that site yet. Ask a site admin to grant it.
  • It says you're not authorized: sign out of the connector and sign in again with the email address on your Pantheon account.

Start a workstream

Curious about what a workstream is? See our workstream explainer.

Do your work on a workstream, so nothing changes on the live site until you're ready.

  1. Ask your assistant:

On my site, create a workstream called "Mark's new page".

  1. Check that the workstream appears in the P1 dashboard.

To continue earlier work, ask your assistant to list the site's workstreams, then name the one to use.

Edit an existing page

  1. Ask for the change, naming the site, workstream, and page:

In the "Mark's new page" workstream, change the main heading on the home page to "Welcome".

  1. The assistant reads the page and describes what's on it. If your request could mean more than one thing, it asks you first, for example, whether to replace the existing text or add to it. Answer, then let it continue.

  1. When it reports the edit is done, open the page in the P1 editor to check it.

If the assistant says someone else is editing that part of the page, wait until they've finished and ask again.

To undo an edit you don't want, ask: “Undo that change.”

Create a new page

  1. Ask for the page, describing its path and content:

In the "Mark's new page" workstream, create a page at /marks-new-page with a heading titled "Mark's new page" and a text block below it.

  1. Open the page in the P1 editor to check it.

To start from a template instead:

Create a page at /marks-new-page from one of my site's templates. Show me the options first.

If you are ever curious what a page can be built from in P1, simply ask your assistant:

What components and templates can I use on my site?
